GRADE 10 SEMESTER #2 - THE DELICIOUS POWER OF FOOD

OVERALL FOCUS

POSSIBLE PROJECTS*

  • 1) THE BEAUTY OF FOOD

    • For this project, we will set up an evening of food, education and entertainment for our community, and the proceeds will go to a local charity.

    • As a class, students will cook the meal, serve the customers, provide entertainment, and present the stories of each dish.

    • We will also create the menus, which will be small books that tell the story of each dish with photos and QR codes.

  • 2) THE TROUBLES WITH FOOD

    • You and a partner will choose and explore a problem that exists with food

      • Distribution

      • Scarcity

      • Water

      • Poverty and malnutrition

      • Economics of food (externalities, scarcity, tradeoffs, choice)

      • Poor eating habits and obesity

      • Food engineering (Monsanto)

      • Production of food (Local Fisheries)

      • Etc. 

    • Then you will produce a final product of your choosing that raises awareness about the issue and offers solutions. Some options include:

      • Creating a film

      • Writing a short book

      • Putting together a website or magazine

      • Giving a TED Talk

      • Painting a mural

      • Doing a podcast

  • 3) PRESENTATION OF LEARNING (POL)

    • At the end of each semester, you'll present your most important learnings from each project.
