How to Apply to 9th Grade
Thank you for your interest in the program! Below, you can find the steps as to how to apply.
If you are an 8th-grade student applying for IA 9, your application deadline is April 24th.
Step 1: Follow us on Instagram.
Step 2: Familiarize yourself with the program by reading the pages on our website, if you haven't already. Be sure that you are making an informed decision!
Step 3: Write a personal statement of around 500 words. You can choose the one prompt that most appeals to you from the ones shown below. It's interesting to note that they come directly from the 2022-2023 Common Application college essay prompts.
Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you?
Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more.
You can send your personal statement in PDF format to Joe Bonnici at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Step 4: Finally, begin preparing for a future interview with either Whitney Little or Joe Bonnici. Here are some possible questions that could be asked during the interview:
If you could study one of your passions in more depth, what would it be and how would you push yourself to learn more?
What do you hope to learn by being part of the Innovation Academy?
What will you be able to contribute to the academy?
What are your strengths and weaknesses as a learner?
Do your current grades adequately reflect who you are as a student? Why or why not?
If you could change one thing about education, what would you change?
Are you willing to make your work transparent by maintaining a blog and a website that will be shown to people throughout the world?
What is one thing you would like mastery in?
What is your biggest failure and what did you learn from it?
Have you completed all the steps? You're good to go!
